Prophetic Medicine
Hazret Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to recommend talbina for the sick and for which suffered too by a dead person. "She (may Allaah be pleased with her) said:" I heard that the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Salaam) said: "the talbina gives rest to the patient's heart and makes it active and helps relieve your pain and sorrow."

Understanding Talbina
Talbina is a porridge made from barley flour, formed by adding milk and honey to the dried barley powder. The name comes from the Arabic word laban meaning yogurt (fermented churned milk), because of its resemblance to yogurt, as it is soft and white
Barley (Hordeum vulgare) belongs to the grass family, Poaceae (Gramineae). It is the fourth most important cereal crop after wheat, maize and rice and is among the top ten crop plants in the world. Barley is classified as spring or winter types, two-rowed or six-rowed, hulled or hulless by presence or absence of hull tightly adhering to the grain and malting or feed by end-use type.
Barley is a good source of insoluble and soluble dietary fiber. The soluble fiber portion contains the richest source of beta-glucans compared to any other grain; these can aid immune function. Barley also contains B vitamins, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, and copper, and is one of the richest sources of chromium, which is important in maintaining blood glucose levels. Barley is also rich in antioxidants and contains a high concentration of tocols and tocotrienols, oils that help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Barley has been cited as a possible food to increase tryptophan, and thus serotonin in the body.
History of Talbina
The history of Talbina dates back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad, who was said to have recommended Talbina as a remedy for grief and sorrow. Talbina has been mentioned in many Islamic texts, including the Hadith, and is considered to be a Sunnah (righteous action) of the Prophet. It is also called prophetic food.

Recipe
Ingredients
Barley- 6 tbsp
Milk- 1 Lit
Date- 2 no
Honey- 2 tbs
Almond slice- 1 tbs
Cardamom seeds ½ tsp
Simmer Milk and Soak Barley To begin with, we need to prepare our barley. Soak about 5 or 6 tablespoons of barley grains in a bowl of water overnight, to help break them down in the cooking process.
Pour milk in a saucepan, and set it over a medium high heat.Can be use sheep, goat milk, camel or even almond milk, can also be used here! In any case, let everything heat up until it is just about bubbling.
Add Barley while the milk is bubbling, When the milk is at a rolling boil, pour in your soaked and drained barley, along with your cardamom seeds.
Serve in a bowl, garnish with a few scoops of sliced almonds, and dig in while it's still hot! Add in some honey, to taste, if the dish isn't to your taste!
Talbina variations
You could make your own variations of Talbina. Either blend the cooked barley coarsely and add more whole / skimmed milk to make a drink or eat the cooked barley as a hot cereal for breakfast. Add chopped almonds, raisins, bananas or berries as toppings or flavour it with cardamom/cinnamon powder etc. But for sweetening it, use only natural ingredients such as honey or dates and no added sugar.
Pot Barley and Pearl Barley for Talbina
The difference between them is in their processing – the pearl  barley being a little more polished and refined than the pot barley which means that its nutrient value is a little less than the other one. After trying both of them for making Talbina
Using Barley Flour for Talbina
You could also use barley flour to make Talbina. Add one tbs of barley flour to one cup of warm whole milk, sweeten with honey or dates and enjoy.
